Excellent insight. Glad to see you have some
experience with these LEDs, which are looking more and
more like the active item (instead of the high Q
cores). 

I will try to answer all the points later this morning
for what has been posted elsewhere but let me just add
this major update...

He has now been able to drive 150 LEDs (two groups of
75 in series) to "blinding" brightness.

The signal (no more than 5 milliwatts when driving a
resistor) can be disconnected altogether after startup
indicating frequency lock-in. Ground cannot be
disconnected.
